my first tattoo was for her.
a little ribbon over my left lung, where hers was cut out.

i showed it to her, proud.
she looked and said,
disgusting.

but i love you, ma.
she shook her head.

you used to be so beautiful.

Your skin will become graffiti.
The sacred will lose its meaning.

You should never get a tattoo because you will regret it.
It will be too big or too small, misplaced or off-center.
