i have been contemplating for the longest time whether to switch to a blackberry classic from my iphone as i find myself using it less & less, all the while feeling so unproductive whenever i do catch myself scrolling endlessly. this is def a sign & the odysseus reference was so good.
Less than 25% of my life has been spent with a smartphone or iPad. That means I survived and thrived for over 75% of my life without either. The percentage of human history spent on such devices is a tiny fraction of 1%. I think your plan is a good one!
I know switching to a "dumb phone" is easier said than done, but the part where you highlight going back to a digital camera, carrying a notebook, etc, was almost a selling point for me. Having an all-in-one device seemed like an obvious solution circa 2012, but now the idea of having devices/objects for specific tasks is looking way more attractive.
all-in-one seems like a great idea except that it includes social media, which I can't seem to form a healthy relationship with. the multiple tools route is less convenient but better for the soul.
I have constantly been thinking of doing this, even going online to check the prices to buy a flip phone. But because I'm doing online courses, it limits access to my family and classes etc (zoom, telegram, WhatsApp) But I'd want nothing more than to chuck this phone lol
So insightful! I love how you tied together with Odysseus. " I'm regaining control over my attention. I've muted the sirens' song." truly my favorite line

blackberry is dope. go for it!
Have been seriously considering this as my iPhone is dying and I either need to get another one or the dumb phone! Thanks for your perspective

Dumb phones that run Kai os have basic music, email and maps - Nokia 2720 for example.
